Captiva Island FL Vacation Rentals

Captiva is a tropical island located about four miles off the coast of Ft. Myers, Florida and just off the northern tip of Sanibel Island. It's a pleasant 55 minute drive from new Ft Myers' Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), a 2.5 hours from Miami International Airport (MIA), 3 hours from Tampa International (TPA) or St Pete/ Clearwater (PIE), or 4 hours from Orlando International (MCO). Many start their trip with a visit to the Orlando Disney World and Disney Theme Parks and finish with an easy drive to Captiva Island. Please do not confuse Captiva with North Captiva, which is only accessible by boat.

Captiva beach private vacation rental homes offer an economical alternative to hotel or South Seas Island Resort lodging. Choose a private house rental with pool, and you'll find full amenities including all linens, fully equipped kitchens and high speed wireless Internet. Free 7-speed bicycles and all beach equipment help make a perfect holiday vacation rental spot for your family with a Captiva Island rental.

The Island looks more Caribbean than Florida, with colorful and lush tropical foliage, wonderful tropical birds, and no high rises or fast food chains. The local restaurants are wonderful and rich with Island charm. The Island's structures, beach and tropical palm trees are in wonderful condition and show no clue that any storm has passed by in recent years.

The sugar sand beaches are all natural and not crowded, though all beach areas are open to the public. Shelling is fantastic, surf fishing is very popular, and the gentle slope of the beach allows safe and easy swimming in the Gulf of Mexico.

A car is optional to enjoy the many activities on Captiva, as most everything is accessible by foot, bicycle, or golf cart.  A limo from the airport is a good alternative to a rental car. Groceries from Bailey's General Store on Sanibel Island can be ordered in advance for delivery on your arrival day. Children's cribs, playpens and jogging strollers can be delivered by Island Rentals. Captiva has two convenience stores in the village for quick purchases.

Captiva is very popular all year long, with only a few weeks in the fall that can be considered “off season”, and there are a limited number of rental houses available. Captiva is usually booked heavier than Sanibel, as Sanibel houses rent only monthly, while Captiva house rentals are weekly on a Saturday arrival schedule. We urge you to reserve your vacation rental home as early as possible.

Visit Captiva and enjoy the beach for an early morning walk, a day in the surf, the sunny skies, the brilliant sunsets, the wonderful restaurants and endless activities that await you.

Captiva Island is a favorite vacation destination or holiday letting area for the British. Let Captiva Island Vacation rentals be a part of your next holiday. Email us today for reservations.

Captiva Beach and Gulf Waters in Pristine Condition

Captiva FunWe’re glad to report our beaches in South West Florida are absolutely pristine and unaffected by the oil hundreds of miles to our northwest.

The drive over the Blind Pass Bridge from joining Sanibel to Captiva is stunningly beautiful. The birds, fish, dolphins, manatees and turtles are all happy here, as well as the visitors! It is absolute perfection, and expected to remain so!

Following are some live webcam or daily photos from various parts of Sanibel and Captiva.

SanibelCaptivaDaily.com provides a daily photo and description of one of our pristine beaches as well as many daily Island happenings.

Captiva BoatingAll forecasters and officials feel the Southwest Florida Gulf Coast beaches from Tampa all the way to Bonita, Naples and Marco Island will be protected by the Gulf loop current. Should any oil start to flow southward, the current will take control and is expected keep any oil 150 miles or more west of Captiva and Sanibel beaches in SW Florida.

View a simplified Gulf Loop Current Diagram from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) illustrating how any oil escaping from the northwest of us would be herded by the loop current about 150 miles or more off our coast.

This more in depth article and diagram of Gulf Loop Current explanation, also from NOAA, for those of you wanting more information on the Gulf.

Don't miss out on a typically wonderful summer beach vacation on Sanibel or Captiva. If you've delayed your plans based to visit SW Florida on fear from the media, don't let yourself be a victim. You'll get a discounted rate for the last minute reservation, you'll have a wonderful time, and your presence here will be appreciated by all. Lastly – should oil spoil our beaches during your visit, we guarantee a full refund of your vacation rental if requested.
